NZ Rotarians and partners Outbound onSeptember 26 - October 10, 2020.

In the height of Fall Foliage season, we are organising an International Friendship Exchange Programme with District 7850 – this means that we are calling for a group of Rotarians from our District who are keen to visit District 7850. This District extends from Northern Vermont, USA, and Northern New Hampshire, USA to the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada.

DISTRICT 7850 DESCRIPTION

District 7850 is one of the few international Rotary districts and we are a bilingual district with both English and French speaking clubs.   We celebrate this piece of our cultural diversity.

District 7850 now includes forty (42) clubs with twenty-five clubs in Vermont, eleven in New Hampshire; four in Quebec; one that spans the USA-Canada border, Rotary International’s first international club; and one that spans the Vermont-New Hampshire border.

Our district is best known for its bright fall colors of red, yellow, orange and gold; excellent skiing in the winter; many dairy farms; and many scenic sites to keep you busy taking pictures.  You will find scenery that will take your breath away.   We are fortunate to live in a region that includes portions of the Appalachian Mountain chain including the White Mountains in New Hampshire and Green Mountains in Vermont. Major mountains are Mount Washington in New Hampshire, Mount Mansfield and Killington in Vermont and Mount Megantic in Quebec.

There are several colleges including University of Vermont in Burlington, VT, and Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. Visitors are encouraged to visit nearby Montreal, Canada, sometimes included as part of the RFE and Boston, Massachusetts, the probable inbound airport site.

Many of our towns, villages and cities are nestled in the many river valley found in our region.  We are fortunate to have many rivers and lakes, including Lake Champlain, Lake Winnipesaukee and Lac Memphremagog.

Hiking, biking, antiquing, county, provincial and crafts fairs, and historic sites attract many tourists from late spring to late fall. Winter events include skiing, snowshoeing, dog sledding, and more.  All regions produce maple syrup, and we debate which region makes the best syrup.   The area is noted for producing fine granite and marble too. No matter what the season our average daily temperatures can fluctuate, in the fall we can have very cool nights and very warm days.  In winter we can have moderately cold to sub-zero weather.  It is always wise to bring layers of clothing to help you adapt to the range of temperatures you may experience. We are noted for having friendly and welcoming communities.  Our goal for each friendship exchange is for you to spend time in Vermont, New Hampshire and Quebec.  Come and enjoy our part of the world.

Friendship Exchange Programmes are on a First Come – First Serve basis, therefore, if you are interested, it would be advisable to contact me asap: Anneke Wolterbeek, Chair RFE for D9940, email:  aewrootbeer@gmail.com .
