The week following the brutal terrorist shootings in Christchurch, members of the Awapuni Rotary Club met outside the local mosque to answer the question “So what do we do now?”  Standing beside an armed police officer amongst a carpet of floral tributes, watching the endless waves of supporters and sufferers was a sobering experience.
The “Bravethinkers-New Zealand Business Week Project” aims to fully-fund 10 senior secondary school students from Christchurch, who have been personally impacted by the tragedy, to participate in an intensive one-week residential course in Palmerston North (7-12 July 2019).
“Asking for help reveals strength, not weakness.”
“The Brave Thinkers-NZBW” course has operated annually for over 25 years (supported by Rotary NZ), offering 50-60 senior students a structured program, in which the outcome is to build resilience, develop confidence and value curiosity. This is achieved within a mentored & peer supported environment, based on teams developing a virtual business & undertaking a social enterprise challenge.
We are approaching local Rotary Clubs hoping that they would help us, by fully sponsoring a student at $1,000 (this includes all travel and course costs) or any lesser contribution would be welcome.
Thank you in advance for your support and here are the ways you can make a donation:
·         Rotary Club-Awapuni Charitable Fundraising Trust
Bank account: 02-0727-0112441-00
NZ Charities Register number: CC31457

·         Post cheque to P.O. Box 1824, Palmerston North, 4440
The selection & support of the Christchurch students is being coordinated through the Linwood Rotary Club. Their association with the local high schools and the Linwood Islamic Centre (where 10 people were killed) will ensure that we will have 10 worthy course participants.
Thank you again.
Sincerely,
Peter Shelton                                                              Rodney Wong

Background information:
“New Zealand Business Week (NZBW) will be delivering our programme to Year 12 and 13 students in 2019.
New Zealand Business Week is about building Brave Business Leaders and personal development. It's fun, it's challenging and it's for anyone that’s ever been interested in business or had a business idea.
During the intensive one-week programme, you'll be encouraged to be bold in your thinking, you'll learn about new business models, you'll meet other business people and combine academic learning with business decision making. By forming a virtual company, you'll make decisions about marketing, personnel and production in order to develop and grow a successful business.
The week has a strong emphasis on personal development - confidence, leadership, team work - and includes an extensive, supervised, social programme. Have fun, meet new people, develop new skills and learn about business from your own discovery and from people who are out there doing it.”
