Leadership Impact 1 - November 11thComing up very soon is the learning and development opportunity for President Elects and any other Rotarians. This will be an on-line zoom meeting. It is designed to provide current information to Presidents Elect, Club officers and any other Rotarians in order to prepare them to have an effective and successful year. You will have the opportunity to engage with Rotary leaders, and be involved in discussion sessions on various topics relevant to Rotary club leadership and management. The Rotary International constitution which applies to all clubs, requires that President Elects must attend. For Rotarians who have held the role of President in previous years and are standing again, please be aware that many things change over time, so it is important you do attend and do not assume you have "been there, done that". You can register for the event here Jay Jaiganesh Learning & Development Chair. |

Message from DG Marion about the Christchurch EventThe Rotary vision statement begins with the words 'Together we see a world where people unite...' It is important that at this time we stand beside those Rotarians and community members who are affected by Friday's tragic events and offer whatever support we can As Rotarians we hold core values of diversity, service, integrity, fellowship and leadership; in the ensuing days and weeks we need to demonstrate our commitment to those values We will be listening to the needs of Christchurch as a whole and District 9970 in responding to the needs of the community. I am appealing to each Rotarian to look in your own communities and ask how you can support them in this time of need. I have talked to John Driscoll and below is a message sent by him and from the Rotary Club of Riccarton who is most closely engaged with the communities on the ground. Members attended the Hui this afternoon at Horouta Marae in Porirua with Plimmerton and Tawa Rotary Clubs, Porirua Multicultural Society, Mayor Mike Tana and our local Muslim community. There were moving tributes shared for all families affected with the tragic events that happened on Friday. Our clubs are encouraged to donate to the Riccarton, Christchurch Rotary account listed below |

Rotary E-club in D9940 ?Hello Fellow Rotarians ! In my view, I have 2 choices: • to resign from the Rotary club completely due to my not being able to attend Any formal Rotary meetings (now for almost a year), - or - • to start up an E-club in an attempt to manage the one's busy life commitments along with a genuine interest to stay in Rotary and seek ways to participate via other means ? |

RAGES new Africa ProjectRAGES (Rotary Action Group for Endagered Species) has added a new project. Deb Mair, Hutt City Rotarian and South East Asia Director brings us this fantastic new story. An all female, anti poaching team using a boots on the ground philosophy to save rhinos and wildlife in Africa. The Black Mambas anti-poaching strategy includes ‘visual policing’ through daily boundary patrols which are conducted on foot during first light and by vehicle at last light. Observation and listening posts are stationed in critical areas such as known entry and exit points or popular rhino waterholes for signs of poisoning. Disruptive patrols are performed within areas of high rhino density to thwart any attempts to poach rhino in our area. Road Blocks involve searching know and unknown vehicles for any illegal or suspicious items. They are an unarmed unit who have a vision to conserve and protect the rhino species and other animals on their land which will ensure sustainability and responsible tourism growth whilst protecting the environment and biodiversity of the reserve.

District Governor's Introduction 2017-18I have a lot to be thankful for in being your District Governor for 2017-18 and leading our Rotarian’s to share ideas and take action! Firstly what I admire most is the support and hard work from my wife Fiona, that will largely will go unnoticed throughout the year as her quiet approach to getting the job done supports me as I front our Rotary District. Please acknowledge your partners who provide the necessary support to achieve the essential family, work and Rotary life balance. In 1991 I was sponsored into Rotary by Rotary Club of Panmure stalwart and my mentor Percy Eaton PHF. Percy was the retired Charter Principal of the Pt England Primary School and held high personal and Rotary ethical standards to meet the Four Way Test. This provided me with an amazing start in to my Rotary years. |
