Interact Club of Port Nicholson 2016
District 9940 District Governor Elect Mitchell Brown was delighted to present the new INTERACT CLUB OF PORT NICHOLSON, with their charter certificate and membership badges on the 19th of September 2016. The ceremony was held at their ‘clubrooms’ provided by The Hotel InterContinental Wellington, with a large attendance of Rotarians, Rotaractors and parents.
This community Interact club was chartered with 35 members drawn from both Wellington College and Wellington Girls College.
Since 2008 the Head Pupils of these two Colleges have been appointed as Honorary Members of Port Nicholson Rotary for their year in office. The fruit of many years of Rotary liaison by Gillian Robertson (Port Nicholson Rotary) with both colleges (candidates for Science forum, Rotary Business week etc.) has culminated in extensive support from this year’s head pupils in the formation of the Interact club.
The club has co-presidents with one elected from each college. Both College principals fully support the development of the club and with meetings being held outside of the normal school environs.
These new ‘apprentice’ Rotarians are already in action having helped the Red Cross with sorting household goods for arriving refugee families. Having already held their first public fundraising event they are planning an end of year gala to support deprived youth in Wellington, and the annual Christmas boxes from the City Mission.
