Immediate Past District Governor
Marion Johnston(Mike)
Marion was born in Invercargill on a sunny Saturday last century.
She received a secondary education at Christchurch Girls’ High School and Wellington Girls’ College and trained as a teacher at Wellington Teachers’ College.
After a career of some 16 years in the Education Service in several roles, including payroll development, Marion and husband Mike bought a long-established family automotive business in Whanganui which they have operated for the past 22 years; Marion joined the Rotary Club of Wanganui North in 2003 after being invited along by a customer.
Both Marion and Mike have a passion for cars and have been closely involved in motor sport for 40 years. They are also members of the Vintage Car Club and each owns a vintage car. Marion is also involved with the historic paddle steamer ‘Waimarie’ which operates on the Whanganui River. As a couple they enjoy exploring NZ in their motorhome which they converted themselves from a 12-metre bus. They have 5 adult sons and a growing number of grandchildren. The family has enjoyed the experience of hosting RI Youth Exchange students on a number of occasions. Home is on 2 ½ acres at the southern edge of Whanganui, which Marion and Mike currently share with their youngest son, 2 elderly cats and a tortoise.
